As an apprentice or trainee, you will earn money while learning new skills. You also get real work experience, which can help you build your career.
MEGT has helped over 35,000 apprentices and trainees with disability. We have tools to help you apply for a job and a Job Board where you can find hundreds of job vacancies. Our team will support you and your employer to make sure your work environment is good throughout your apprenticeship or traineeship.
Mentoring by MEGT
Did you know that apprentices and trainees with disability can access free, one-on-one mentoring?
Our team of mentors are here to listen and support you. They will make sure you stay motivated and on track to finish your qualification. MEGT mentors provide you with a safe space and offer advice that will help build your confidence, help balance your work and training commitments, and help you navigate through any challenge you may face.
In addition to one-on-one mentoring, MEGT offers:
- Helpful resources for you and your employer
- Support and advice for any niggles or short-term problems faced throughout your training
- Connections to specialist services, if needed
Billie-Jo, TAS
Billie-Jo is in her second year of a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and living her dream of becoming a chef. “MEGT has been amazing,” Billie-Jo said. “I didn't realise how much my dyslexia would impact my studies, but MEGT got me a tutor and my mentor has been incredibly supportive”.
Atticus, SA
Having faced many challenges growing up in a mainstream school, Atticus undertook a school-based education support traineeship. As an openly autistic person with ADHD, Atticus hopes to support children to be proud of their own uniqueness. “It’s often up to the people with disabilities to adapt to the world around them.”
Christine, QLD
While completing her school-based traineeship in business services at Microsoft, Christine ran a peer-to-peer workshop with students experiencing various levels of disability about how to make Xbox controllers more adaptable. “I’ve learned new skills in technology and business, as well as how to operate in a workplace and how to manage my time,” she said.
Thomas, TAS
Completing an apprenticeship with a learning disability can be especially challenging. But with the help and support of his MEGT Mentor Elicia Austin, Thomas is thriving as he completes his Certificate II in Agriculture. "MEGT understands me as a person, not just my disability," Thomas said.
