Painting Futures III – Townsville (QLD)
MEGT has partnered with Major Training and the ABIS Housing Community Co-Operative Society to offer traineeships to First Nations participants in Townsville.
Painting Futures III - Townsville is a continuation of the successful Painting Futures programs that have been conducted throughout Queensland.
About Painting Futures III
MEGT has helped increase employment opportunities for over 250 participants via several Painting Futures programs all over Queensland.
Painting Futures III is an 18-week, full-time traineeship where participants work towards obtaining an in-demand and nationally-recognised qualification.
On-the-job learning includes repainting community housing across the Currajong, Rasmussen, Heatley, Thuringowa and Hyde Park areas.
Participants get to:
- Earn money while learning new skills from experienced tradies
- Undertake a Certificate I in Construction
- Receive full support from First Nations mentors
- Make a meaningful contribution to local communities
- Build work-ready skills to enhance their resume
MEGT provides tailored support throughout and assists with finding employment or apprenticeship opportunities at the completion of the program.

Painting Futures success stories
Isiah’s story
Isiah joined Painting Futures in his search for a stable and fulfilling job. His enthusiasm and hard work saw him complete the program and obtain a Certificate I in Construction. Isiah said: “The training was both practical and engaging, equipping me with the skills and confidence needed to pursue a career in construction.”
Norrin’s story
Norrin left high school at the age of 15 and thought her career prospects were limited. An introduction to the Painting Futures program proved to be the turning point she needed, and with a natural talent for painting and decorating, Norrin completed her Certificate I in Construction. “I didn’t think I’d excel in something like this but the support I received made all the difference.”
Kobe’s story
MEGT provided Kobe with weekly coaching and daily contact to help him overcome some personal challenges while he completed the Painting Futures program. Kobe worked on building his confidence, resilience and communication which helped him form new friendships and secure a painting and decorating apprenticeship.
Danielle’s story
Danielle was homeless when she set herself a life goal of completing the Painting Futures program. Throughout the program, Danielle realised that painting helped with her mental illness challenges, and allowed her to model her cultural roots for her son, nephew and nieces. Danielle said: “I’m amazed with myself and all the new skills I have learned. I’m so thankful for this opportunity which has changed my life.”
