MEGT has proudly been involved in a range of employment programs that have helped to strengthen job opportunities and skills development for communities around Australia. 

MEGT's past projects

South Australia

Built by Community

Delivered in partnership with local employers, the Built by Community pre-employment program provided opportunities for First Nations men and women to upskill and transition towards a career in construction. 

Participants completed their SSDIS01088 Introduction to Construction Skill Set with SYC, Built By Community’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partner. 

The program included full wraparound support from MEGT help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers.

Built by Community was proudly supported by the Government of South Australia.

Built by Jill

MEGT partnered with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to deliver the Built By Jill program to increase employment opportunities for long-term unemployed women wanting to enter the construction industry. 

Built By Jill programs have run in both northern and southern Adelaide. As part of the program, participants completed their SSDIS01088 Introduction to Construction Skill Set with SYC, Built By Jill’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partner.

The program included full wraparound support from MEGT including mentoring, help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers. 

Empowering Career Options

Empowering Career Options was a fully-funded program to improve the skills, employment opportunities and social inclusion for survivors of domestic violence.

Career Meeting

Empowering Career Options programs were held in Queensland and South Australia. Participants completed work experience while undertaking their Certificate III in Business Administration with TAFE SA, Empowering Career Options’ Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners.

They were provided with full wraparound support from MEGT, including help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers.

Empowering Pathways into Aged Care

The Empowering Pathways into Aged Care program provided support to women survivors of domestic violence to build their skills and connections to help them transition towards sustainable employment within the aged care sector. 

As part of the program, participants undertook a CHC33015 Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) with the program’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners.

The program included full wraparound support from MEGT, including help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers and community groups.


Empowering Pathways into Aged Care was proudly supported by the Government of South Australia.

I Construct

MEGT teamed up with the South Australian government and Adelaide-based industry and expert partners to deliver I Construct, a four-week pre-apprenticeship program providing First Nations participants with an introduction to the construction industry. Participants were able to:

  • Access a range of learning modules including bricklaying, painting, tiling, plastering, and carpentry
  • Develop an Individual Training and Support Plan (ITSP)
  • Undertake pre-employment, employment, and cultural awareness training
  • Benefit from tailored mentoring support

Those who successfully completed I Construct were considered for a full-time apprenticeship with a private employer or a Group Training Organisation (GTO) through the SA Housing Authority's 250 Apprenticeships Program.

I Construct partners included Master Builders South Australia, mteSA and Believe Indigenous Contracting. 

I Got Built

The purpose of the I Got Built pre-apprenticeship program was to help young First Nations peoples find employment in the construction industry, and to support the construction industry following the COVID-19 pandemic.

I Got Built for participants

Participants undertook a CPC20113 Certificate II in Construction with the program’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners. The program included full wraparound support from MEGT, including ongoing mentoring, help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to connect with employers.

I Got Built for employers

Pre-apprenticeship programs such as I Got Built were vital as Australia recovered from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Employer benefitted by signing up I Got Built graduates, gaining employees with industry-relevant skills, hands-on experience, and a passion for construction.

Test a Trade

MEGT, Carey Training and the South Australian Housing Authority teamed up with the Skilling South Australia initiative to deliver the Test a Trade pre-apprenticeship program.

From bricklaying, painting, tiling or plastering, the Test a Trade program combined classroom learning and practical experience to allow participants to ‘test’ if a trade was right for them.

Participants were introduced to various learning modules from trade apprenticeships over a period of four weeks, including:

  • Working safely at heights
  • Working effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
  • Using construction tools and equipment
  • Undertaking a basic construction project
  • Handling wall and floor tiling materials
  • Handling and storing painting and decorating materials
  • Handling and preparing bricklaying and block laying materials
  • Handling solid plastering materials


Test a Trade partners included Master Builders South Australia, mteSA, CEG, Statewide Group Training and HIA apprentices, and was proudly supported by the Government of South Australia.

New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program

Funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, the New Energy Apprenticeships Mentoring Program provided mentoring and support to encourage more people to enter and succeed in the new energy workforce.

The program involved: 

  • Tailored mentoring with MEGT carefully matching volunteer mentors with apprentices
  • Career-based guidance
  • The opportunity to connect with New Energy peers and employers
  • Advice and assistance with government financial incentives
Chef for Life

The Chef for Life skill shortage solutions program was designed to turn peoples’ passion for food into rewarding careers.

Participants undertook the SSDIS01007 Basic Skills for the Food Industry Skill Set with HITsa Training and Employment, Chef for Life's Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partner to: 

  • Learn basic food preparation and cookery skills
  • Gain knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Develop time management, multi-tasking and communication skills
  • Build other work-ready skills to enhance their resume
  • Make connections with potential employers 

Upon completing the Chef for Life program, MEGT supported participants into an apprenticeship with possible career pathways include cooking, catering, working front of house or kitchen operations.  

Chef for Life was supported by the Government of South Australia. 

Trading Futures

Trading Futures was a voluntary program for participants with an offending history seeking a career in construction or welding in South Australia.

With welding and construction streams, participants undertook a Skill Set with either Carey Training or Adelaide Training and Employment Centre (ATEC), Trading Future's Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners.

Throughout the program, participants: 

  • Learned how to work safely
  • Gained experience using construction tools or welding equipment
  • Completed their White Card
  • Developed communication and work-ready skills
  • Were mentored by experienced industry professionals
  • Were supported in gaining an apprenticeship at the end of the program

Trading Futures was supported by the Government of South Australia and the SA Department of Correctional Services. 

Queensland

Aged Care Potential

Aged Care Potential was a partnership between MEGT, Aged Care Services Australia (ACSA), and PowerHouseHub to increase the employability of those who were devoted to looking after older Australians.

Four microcredentials were delivered as part of the program, including:

  • Dignity of risk, giving people the right or dignity to take reasonable risks
  • Understanding aged care standards
  • Planning for pandemics
  • Leadership in crisis

I Got Brushed

MEGT’s First Nations work skills program, I Got Brushed, helped develop participants’ skills and employment opportunities while improving local Indigenous community housing. 

Having run since 2021 across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Townsville, I Got Brushed has supported over 280 participants. 

Over 18 weeks, I Got Brushed participants undertook a full-time traineeship as they worked towards getting their Certificate I in Construction. Participants were able to:

  • Earn money via a paid traineeship
  • Learn on-the-job skills from experienced tradespeople
  • Receive full support from First Nations mentors
  • Make a meaningful contribution to local communities
  • Build work-ready skills to enhance their resume

Full wraparound support was provided by MEGT, including mentoring, help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers.

I Got Brushed programs were funded by the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative.

I Got Brushed
I Got Landscaped

Based on the successful I Got Brushed program, I Got Landscaped provided an opportunity for 16 First Nations participants to obtain a Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management and transition towards employment.

Participants were able to access specialist workshops and training to learn about culture, country, traditional conservation techniques, native flora, and indigenous food. They also undertook a variety of landscaping and planting activities for the Brisbane Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Housing Authority’s community housing, under the guidance of experienced tradespeople.

MEGT provided full wraparound support including mentoring, help with job searches and applications, and opportunities to conduct conservation work in Queensland’s National Parks.

I Got Landscaped was co-delivered by Ballistic Training Solutions and the Brisbane Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Housing Authority (BATSICCHA) and supported by the Department of Forestry. It was funded by the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative.

Industry Training Hub

Designed to connect students with local jobs, the Industry Training Hub (Townsville) program was run by MEGT on behalf of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR). 

Industry Training Hub

MEGT worked with career facilitators to improve the employment opportunities for Year 11 and Year 12 students in areas of high youth unemployment. 

Participants received tailored guidance and support to help choose suitable career pathways, identify relevant Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities, build employability skills, and make connections with local industry partners. 

Industry Training Hub programs have been held in Queensland and Victoria. Industry Training Hubs is an Australian government initiative.

Marine Careers

MEGT's Marine Careers program was designed to improve employment opportunities for job seekers looking to work in the maritime industry.

Marine Careers

Participants undertook a Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation with TAFE Queensland, Marine Careers’ Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partner. 

Participants put into practice their training via a work experience placement. This included inspecting vehicles, equipment and marine craft, marine retail, service and repair.

MEGT provided full wraparound support, including help with job searches and applications, and the opportunity to make connections with local employers.

Marine Careers was funded by the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative.

Painting Futures Scouts

MEGT partnered with The Scouts Association of Australia, Aussie Painters Network and the National Institute of Construction Skills to deliver the Painting Futures (Scouts) program in Queensland. Participants worked towards completing their Certificate I in Construcation while repaint the Oakleigh Scout Den.

Victoria

Industry Training Hub

Designed to connect students with local jobs, the Industry Training Hub (Shepparton) program was run by MEGT on behalf of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).
