Building a First Nations banking workforce for Australia’s future
NAB’s First Nations Banking Program is forging new career pathways for First Nations peoples. From high-school students getting their first job to adults moving into a new career, the program provides real banking experience that leads to permanent roles.
With our extensive expertise, MEGT provides comprehensive support to help NAB’s trainees thrive in the workplace and successfully complete their qualifications. So far, we have helped more than 80 First Nations trainees kickstart their career in the banking sector.
Working with schools across Australia, MEGT is bringing banking opportunities directly to Year 11 and 12 students with school-based traineeships. Together, NAB and MEGT are showing young First Nations peoples that banking careers are possible and accessible–in their own communities.

About National Australia Bank
As one of our country’s most-trusted financial institutions for over a century, National Australian Bank has been a constant across every sector of the economy: from individual customers to major companies.
But NAB doesn’t just manage money–it helps shape Australia’s future. NAB’s commitment to matching institutional strength with purposeful action is seen in their comprehensive Indigenous employment initiatives and their Reconciliation Action Plan. Offering real career opportunities for First Nations peoples, NAB shows how institutions can create lasting change.
How does NAB benefit?
MEGT and NAB are working together to create genuine career pathways for First Nations peoples.
NAB’s First Nations Banking Program meets people where they are. From Year 11 and 12 students integrating training into study, to adults diving in full-time roles, and those balancing training with other commitments, MEGT collaborates with trainees to support their unique experience. Working with NAB branches to match trainees with workplaces near their homes, we’re able to ease travel burdens and build on existing community bonds.
MEGT’s First Nations coaches have a proven track record of helping trainees. Balancing work, training and personal lives is a challenge, but we know how to help trainees—and their supervisors—navigate any challenges that may arise.
We offer ongoing support throughout the placement, from mentoring trainees to organising transport and supporting them with personal issues. Studies show that trainees who receive MEGT coaching are more likely to complete their qualification and thrive in their new career.

Building our next generation of First Nations talent
Together, NAB and MEGT are transforming lives across Australia. We share a deep commitment to creating career pathways that truly matter to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We’ve created a partnership that doesn’t just share goals, but delivers on our promises.
At MEGT, we understand that meaningful support makes all the difference. NAB trainees receive both Indigenous-specific and industry-focused coaching, preparing them for work placements, vocational training and success in their new careers.
The impact spreads throughout communities. MEGT consultants lead comprehensive recruitment campaigns that directly connect with First Nations communities, actively seeking out motivated candidates and guiding them through a specialised recruitment process.
MEGT consultants have developed strong relationships with First Nations communities across Australia. Our experienced First Nations coaches provide intensive support throughout their entire qualification journey, while our advisors keep everyone aligned on goals and expectations, and take care of the paperwork and regulatory requirements.
We also provide professional and reliable advice on every aspect of traineeships, based on decades of experience. We take care of the logistics, so NAB can focusing on nurturing its First Nations talent.
First Nations trainees at NAB are also working towards completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Business.
MEGT is proud to collaborate with NAB and the Australia College of Commerce & Management. We’re excited to see what the future holds for our talented First Nations trainees.
