MEGT has partnered with Bric Housing, Major Training, and the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training to deliver the Painting Futures V program in Brisbane.
About Painting Futures V
Through our Painting Futures programs all over Queensland, MEGT has helped increase employment opportunities for over 200 participants.
Painting Futures V is an 18-week, full-time traineeship program open to First Nations candidates aged 15 years or over. Participants work towards obtaining an in-demand and nationally-recognised qualification and get to:
- Earn money while learning new skills from experienced tradies
- Undertake a Certificate I in Construction
- Receive full support from First Nations mentors
- Make a meaningful contribution to local communities
- Build work-ready skills to enhance their resume
MEGT provides tailored support throughout and assists with finding employment or apprenticeship opportunities at the completion of the program.

Isiah’s story
Isiah joined the Painting Futures program with the goal of finding a stable and fulfilling job. His enthusiasm and hard work saw him complete his Certificate I in Construction. Isiah said: “The training was both practical and engaging, equipping me with the skills and confidence needed to pursue a career in construction.”
Norrin’s story
Having left high school at the age of 15, Norrin believed her career prospects were limited. An introduction to the Painting Futures program proved to be the turning point she needed and with a talent for painting and decorating, Norrin completed her Certificate I in Construction. Norrin said: “I didn’t think I’d excel in something like this but the support I received made all the difference."
Kobe’s story
MEGT provided Kobe with weekly coaching and daily contact to support him overcome some personal challenges while he completed the program. Kobe was able to work on building his confidence, resilience and communication which helped him form new friendships and secure a painting and decorating apprenticeship.
Danielle’s story
Danielle was homeless when she set herself a life goal of completing the Painting Futures program. Throughout the program, Danielle realised that painting helps with her mental illness challenges, and helped her model her cultural roots to her son, nephew and nieces. Danielle said: “I’m amazed with myself and all the new skills I have learned. I’m so thankful for this opportunity which has changed my life.”
